S&S Activewear (PPAI 256121, Platinum), PPAI 100’s No. 2 supplier, has begun laying off hundreds of employees as it closes two distribution centers in the United States.

Nearly 200 employees at its distribution center in Bolingbrook, Illinois – where the company is headquartered – are being laid off, according to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Meanwhile, all 146 employees at its distribution center in Irving, Texas, are also being laid off, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission. The layoffs began in early December and will continue until the facility’s closure on Sept. 1, 2026, according to the filing.

“All terminating employees will receive the equivalent of at least 60 days’ pay and required benefits from the date of the notice, either by remaining employed, receiving pay and required benefits in lieu of notice, or some combination thereof,” the filing states.

Network Integration Plan

The closures are part of S&S Activewear’s previously announced network integration plan, which follows the company’s blockbuster acquisition of industry titan alphabroder in 2024.

“As part of this effort, we’re consolidating several distribution centers over the next year to build a more unified, efficient and future-ready network that will better serve our customers,” S&S Activewear told PPAI Media.

We’re committed to managing this process thoughtfully and ensuring a smooth, well-planned path forward for our people and our business.”
