Supplier Stormtech (PPAI 260245) has announced that beginning with its Spring 2018 collection, the Vancouver, British Columbia-based company has eliminated environmentally-harmful perfluorinated carbons (PFCs) from their water repellent apparel products.
PFCs are a group of manufactured compounds that are widely used in water repellent finishes for high performance outerwear to achieve a breathable fabric that is water and oil repellent. Recent studies have shown that PFCs have the potential to cause environmental and health issues, and many industry leading brands are making strides to eliminate them.
“We partnered with fabric mills and garment factories to find breathable water-repellent treatments that are PFC free without sacrificing performance of our materials,” says Blake Annable, president and CEO of Stormtech. “Together with our suppliers, we have selected the best fluorocarbon-free technologies that have proven reliable on our materials.”
