Alvin Lauter, owner of Chicago, Illinois-based supplier Carter & Holmes, passed away suddenly on June 7 in a car accident. He was 86.
Lauter was born in Chicago and for most of his life, called the city home. He purchased neckwear company Carter & Holmes in 1996. It was founded in 1891 and was one of the largest union companies in Chicago. Carter & Holmes was known for its custom designs and creativity, and as a leader in the custom neckwear industry for decades, winning several PPAI Pyramid awards.
“My father gave me the opportunity to be part of this amazing industry. I worked side-by-side with him for over 13 years,” says daughter Kelly Borre, now VP-Midwest, AAA Innovations. “He was an idea man. He taught me so much. He loved the promotional products business and made so many lifelong friends. He will be truly missed.”
Proceeded in death by his parents and six siblings, Lauter is survived by his partner Denise Stein; his children Bradley, Kelly Borre and Amy Rickel, and her husband Freddie; grandchildren Kylie, Brett and Randy Borre, and Alex and Cassidy Rickel; and countless friends.
