Not sure how to pronounce Hermès? Don’t worry, Duolingo’s New York Fashion Week collection spells it all out for you.
This seven-piece capsule collection was released exclusively for NYFW, the biggest annual fashion event in the United States. The collection was made with the help of up-and-coming designer, Megan O’Cain, who was featured in the second season of Next in Fashion on Netflix and is known for her playful and out-of-the-box designs.
The items in the collection feature phonetic spellings of iconic brands, such as Hermès, Loewe, Comme des Garçons, Givenchy and more. These phonetic spellings are featured on shoes, accessories, apparel and even a Duolingo green purse that pays homage to the iconic Birken bag.
The digital education platform is known for its creative marketing campaigns and green owl that often sends not so subtle reminders to continue your learning streak. In fact, this collection was only available at its two-day New York City pop-up through bidding based on fans’ Duolingo streaks rather than actual money.
This clever collection is more than just a marketing gimmick. According to Famous Campaigns, Duolingo and YouGov conducted a survey finding that 62% of Americans were confident they could pronounce Hermès, but only 15% got it correct. This collection is designed to help educate people on pronunciation and look chic while doing it.

This NYFW collection from Duolingo is a good reminder that in a world that values optimization and minimalism, there is still plenty of room for colorful, bold and out-of-the-box merchandise. After all, the best branded merch should get clients and prospects excited and curious about the brand behind it.
For your next campaign, why not try something new and fresh? Chances are if the products excite you, they’ll excite your clients, too.
