This year, 116 industry companies have earned a coveted spot on PPAI’s annual Greatest Companies To Work For list, up from last year’s record of 106. Sixty-three companies were also named to the list for the second consecutive year.
Among the winners are some of the industry’s newest and oldest, smallest and largest, family-owned and equity-owned suppliers, distributors and business service companies with employees numbering between six and nearly 1,200. Despite the diversity, they share a common denominator: All of them won placement on this list solely due to the results of an employee survey where they rated their company in key areas.
The challenges companies have faced over the past five years have brought forth remote and hybrid work options that prioritize a work/life balance. As a result, employees in this survey appear to be more appreciative of benefits as a whole, especially flexible work solutions. Factors like a positive company culture and opportunities for personal growth and development are also called out in the employee comments.
Most important, though, are the people – including co-workers, bosses and top leadership. Employees at these winning companies are watching, listening and are especially mindful of team members and leaders who are supportive, collaborative and have employees’ best interests at heart.

How This Survey Is Conducted
The competition, which began in June, is open to all PPAI member companies in the U.S. and Canada with at least five full-time employees. Firms must be nominated by an employee to compete. They then submit a roster of employees, who receive a questionnaire asking them to rate their employer on a range of topics, from “I am confident about my future at this company,” to “I have a good benefits package compared to other companies,” and “This company operates by strong values and ethics.”
A survey participation rate was established for each company based on its size, and companies were required to achieve that rate to be eligible. The survey results were then tabulated to the same standards as in years past. Taken on average, the employees from winning companies either agreed or strongly agreed with the positive sentiments about their workplaces in the survey.
