Success doesn’t come down to one big break but from small choices made every day. It matters how you think and what you prioritize in your day. Together, these things shape your results over time. Leadership works the same way. It matters what you do when no one is watching and how you show up day after day.
Keynote speaker and bestselling author Dave Durand says leaders often fall short of becoming truly great leaders. The reason? They should be thinking like “Giants” by being committed to self-improvement and helping others become their best.
Durand says Giants follow 4 daily habits that separate them from the pack. We discuss these habits in this issue of PromoPro Daily.
Daily habit No. 1: Bring your thoughts to life with action. Action is essential to accomplishing anything, Durand says. Whatever ideas or strategies you’ve been envisioning, act on them. Don’t plan for so long that the opportunity passes. If you just take action, you’ll see results. They may not be positive results, Durand says, but they’ll provide valuable insight.
Daily habit No. 2: Find concrete reasons to believe. According to Durand, Giants find reasons to believe, and they do it daily. They set a goal and begin building a realistic case for how and why they can and should accomplish it. Trust in your promo expertise and believe that you can help people with that knowledge.
Daily habit No. 3: Break your morning down into 3 daily tasks. Start each day with a list of 3 things you must do that day to succeed. This habit can help you whether you lead your company, you’re brand new to the industry or you’re a solopreneur. Durand says you must clear out the distractions and focus on those 3 tasks before moving on to anything else.
Daily habit No. 4: Keep primary responsibilities primary. Otherwise, Durand says you will unconsciously complicate secondary responsibilities. If your goal is to get 5 sales meetings every day, all other tasks are secondary. Don’t let yourself get distracted by updating your CRM or cleaning out old documents.
You can become a better leader by developing better habits. Instead of overthinking, take action. And don’t let busywork steal your focus. Be clear on what matters. When you practice these habits consistently, you’ll get better results and become a more inspiring leader.
