A plum was thrown. A guitar was smashed. And just like that, Oasis was finished.

At least, that’s how Noel Gallagher tells it. The now-legendary backstage meltdown at a French music festival in 2009 ended the band, triggered by a fight over whether Liam could plug his personal fashion label on tour. Noel said no. Liam responded like – well, Liam.

“He was quite violent. It was a bit like WWE wrestling and he thought he was Randy Savage,” Noel said. “I don’t know why, but he picked up a plum and threw it across the dressing room. Part of me kind of wishes it did end like that because that would’ve been a great headline: Plum Throws Plum and Finishes Oasis.”

So, that was that. Noel quit. The show was canceled. The band was done… all over merch.

Fast forward to 2025, and the thing that blew the group up is now the engine behind its highly anticipated comeback.

Oasis is officially reunited (terms and conditions apply) for Live ’25, a 41-date tour marking 30 years since “Definitely Maybe.” Because the tour is short, and the brothers are famously unpredictable, tickets were gone in minutes. And resale prices? They’re painful – don’t look.

@manchesternews

More than 100,000 Oasis fans have passed through Manchester this week for the first two huge reunion gigs at Heaton Park 🙌 Our photographers were out and about, and we've pulled together 100 pictures from around Manchester and Heaton Park over the first weekend 📸 Liam, Noel and the band go again tonight – and then on Saturday and Sunday this weekend 🎆 Get the latest from Wednesday's gig via our link above 🔗 #news #manchester #oasis #oasislive25 #manchestereveningnews

♬ Hello – Oasis

The setlist is tight – only 23 songs over about two hours. It’s nothing fancy, just the favorites. The fans don’t care. They know not to expect “Eras Tour” energy. The real show is happening offstage, anyway, at the merch table.

@araorozcohc This is it… It’s happening… @Liam Gallagher @Oasis Y falta la nueva merch 😮‍💨 #oasis25live #oasis #oasismexico #adidasoriginals #adidas #adidasrun72 ♬ Supersonic (Remastered) – Oasis

At the center of it all: adidas. The Oasis x adidas Originals collection is linked straight from the band’s official site, featuring Gallagher brothers’ throwback favorites: Firebird tracksuits, football jerseys and logo tees shouting “Definitely Maybe 30” in big bold nostalgia. The campaign, Original Forever, is classic Oasis: unapologetically British and mildly hostile, with one aggressively united eyebrow.

And adidas isn’t going it alone.

’90s mall rat royalty: Abercrombie, PacSun, American Eagle and Gap are all riding the Oasis wave with officially licensed gear. There’s even an Amazon storefront, stocked with reissues, box sets and hoodies so perfectly faded you can almost smell the Marlboro Lights and CK One.

And don’t call it a “throwback.” The merch rollout is built to last. It’s a way for elder millennials to re-up, new fans to discover and for everyone to “attend” without attending. Let’s be honest – these brothers are allergic to getting along. The merch is insurance. If the reunion combusts, the hoodies will keep selling.

So why now? Simple: money. A lot of it.

Oasis’s Live ’25 Tour is expected to gross over $520 million in ticket revenue alone, with each Gallagher brother projected to pocket around $65 million. Including merchandise, sponsorships and licensing, the tour’s total direct earnings could exceed $130 million per Gallagher.

But don’t expect any joint interviews. Or hugging. Or much of anything resembling emotional closure. They’re not that healed. The only thing they can agree on? The tour is happening and the more merch, the better.

“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned,” Liam and Noel said in a rare joint statement. “Come see. It will not be televised.”

Luckily, merch doesn’t require reconciliation. Every graphic tee, every branded bucket hat, every deluxe vinyl set is a way to keep Oasis together long after the final encore. The brothers don’t have to hug it out – they just have to split the profits. Which, conveniently, can be done without ever having to speak again.

The tour is temporary, and the truce is questionable. But no matter how long the reunion lasts, the merch is always for sale.

And maaayyybeeee…
You’re gonna be the one that buys it. (And after all… you always were.)
