Hurricane Ida struck the Louisiana coast on Sunday as a category four storm and its 150 mph winds placed it among the strongest storms ever to hit the U.S. mainland. Louisianans are in need of relief items following Ida’s landfall and to aid in the response, Houston, Texas-based supplier Hirsch Gift is accepting and distributing donations of qualified essential relief items.
The items needed include:
- T-shirts
- Power banks
- Flashlights
- Bottled water and water bottles
- Toiletries
- Adult and children’s diapers
- Feminine hygiene products
- Games and puzzles
- Towels and blankets
- Cleaning products
- OTC medications such as Tylenol/NyQuil/DayQuil
Hirsch asks that all donations be shipped to: Hirsch Gift, 5121 Ashbrook Dr., Houston, Texas 77081. Clearly label the box as “Hurricane Ida Relief” and include two packing lists of items—one taped to the box and another inside of the box. For clothing items, include whether the items are for men, women, and/or children and the sizes in the box. Due to the urgency of the situation, donations should be received no later than Tuesday, September 7.
At the time of shipment, please email idarelief@hirschgift.com with shipment information (tracking number, number of boxes and a general description of the contents).
In addition, Hirsch recommends following the presorting and labeling guidelines set forth in Kim Reinecker’s “Lessons From Hurricane Harvey” article published previously in PPB magazine. This will enable the company to expedite processing time and deliver supplies when they are most needed.
