We’re 6 weeks into the new year and you might be asking yourself where the time went. Maybe you set big goals for yourself, committing to crush your targets and sharpen your skills. Then, meetings, emails and life in general sidetracked those intentions. It’s OK to get caught up in the rush of targets and deadlines sometimes, but don’t let your personal growth permanently fall to the wayside.

Anthony Iannarino, a bestselling author and renowned sales expert, says it’s important to keep working on self-improvement — even if your progress is slow. Tired of starting on your goals only to give up on them when life gets busy? Read on. In this issue of PromoPro Daily, we share 10 tips from Iannarino on how you can break this cycle for good.

1. Commit to 60 days. Whatever you are trying to improve or learn, Iannarino recommends aiming to continue the behavior for 60 days.

2. Prioritize prep work. Maybe you need to read materials or apply your skills in person. Don’t skip any “homework.”

3. Visualize achieving your goal. This keeps you committed, Iannarino says, because it reminds you of what you have to gain and where your work can lead. Let this vision guide you when you start to feel self-doubt.

4. Break goals into manageable milestones. This makes your goal or desired outcome feel much less intimidating. Iannarino says you should focus on being consistent in the behaviors that will get you to your goal.

5. Learn from others. What promo pros do you admire? When you want to learn something, Iannarino says it helps to find someone who has done it and can tell you what you need.

6. Monitor and measure your growth. Otherwise, you won’t feel like you’re making much progress.

7. Break free from your comfort zone. This is one of the best ways to grow, Iannarino says. Once you achieve something that was difficult, you know you can do it again.

8. Share what you know. You can be the promo pro who inspires others. When you share your expertise, Iannarino says you benefit by deepening your knowledge.

9. Build a supportive community. Find like-minded people and tap into that network.

10. Reconnect with your core motivation. Remember to remind yourself of why you want to achieve something. Iannarino says you could write down all the reasons you want it and what it means to you.

Improving as a promo pro (or in any area of your life) requires intention. Instead of tossing in the towel too early, try breaking your goals into smaller pieces and tracking your progress. You could also get pointers from a mentor or someone you admire. It’s not about being perfect but about making consistent effort over time.
