Whoops! New officially licensed merch for The Marvels, due in theaters in November, seems to have let the cat out of the bag.
Maybe Disney and Marvel Studios didn’t think it was a big deal, or purr-haps too cute to pass up, but a new set of Funko Pop figures available exclusively by subscription from Amazon features the “Flerken,” a deadly alien disguised as a cuddly pet cat – spoiler alert! – now with a litter of kittens.

The alien kittens aren’t the only item generating buzz. A Nick Fury figure with green eyes also has conspiracy theories spinning online.
This is far from the first time a toy or other licensed collectible has spoiled a flick for hardcore fans – and reaped the whirlwind of free press in the process. Google “Marvel toy spoiler” and you’ll find tons of articles digging into the details of potential character developments and story arcs made public in plastic. Daniel Forster lists 25 such blunders at TheGamer.com, often revealing a new villain, epic fight location or the superhero’s new super suit.
But these leaks and spoilers certainly work to get fans talking about the upcoming movies, and after all, building brand excitement is exactly what promotional products are for.
