The International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization’s (ICPHSO) recent Annual Meeting and Training Symposium brought global health and safety professionals together to participate in education and discussions that enhance consumer product safety around the world. Held in National Harbor, Maryland, PPAI’s Director of Member Engagement Anne Stone, who recently concluded her service on ICPHSO’s board of directors, and Public Affairs Manager Maurice Norris, were on hand to learn more about the issues and represent the promotional products community.
The four-day symposium’s speakers and attendees included industry leaders from the manufacturing, import and retail sectors; members of the legal community; consumer representatives; trade associations; academia; service providers; testing labs; and federal, state, and local regulators from around the globe, including the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The education sessions included guidance on emerging issues such as the role of material certifications related to sustainability, using digital technology to make safety information more accessible, current trends of state-level consumer product safety restrictions and the CPSC’s priorities under its new leadership, among other topics. PPAI also signed on to a multi-industry letter thanking the CPSC for its continued support of ICPHSO.
PPAI staff and volunteers in the Product Responsibility Action Group have reviewed ICPHSO’s educational content with an eye toward considering which subject matter and speakers might be appropriate for PPAI’s annual Product Responsibility Summit, which focuses on the most pressing business implications and opportunities associated with compliance in the promotional products industry.
