PPAI Technology Awards



The New PPAI Technology Awards recognize PPAI members for development and effective use of technology in a variety of applications.

Eligibility, Deadlines And Entry Fee
1.  Competition is open to all PPAI member companies.
2.  All content must be viewable online from date of entry until judging is completed (October).
3.  Up to two entries per category per member company will be accepted.
4.  Valid entries can be created by internal, or external developers, or may be a turnkey, pre-packaged solution.
5.  All technology content submitted must be intended for use within the promotional products industry.
6.  All entries must be submitted online by April 11, 2014.
7.  Entry fee must be paid in full at the time of submission.

Submission Requirements And Instructions

1.  Determine the category:  Consider the entry you are submitting with the criteria required in the category. Entries will be screened to be sure they are in the correct category and will be moved as necessary. 

2.  No more than TWO entries per member company will be allowed in any category. Extra submissions will be disqualified.

3.  Complete the online entry form.

4.  Entrants will receive an e-mail acknowleding the entry has been received. All entries are considered received after a completed entry form and payment for the entry fee is received by PPAI.

5.  PPAI assumes all entries are original and that the entrant either owns the website, or has permission from a client, or other appropriate party to enter the work, with all rights granted therein. In the event that an entrant without permission submits a site, the entrant will not be disqualified. The PPAI Awards & Recognition department is not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the entrant. Submission of any entry acknowledges the right of PPAI to use it for exhibition and publication in any medium.

Categories, Descriptions and Scoring

Web Content/Functionality:  This category of competition focuses on the web-based presentation of a company’s overall products and services in an effective format utilizing concise content and appropriate terminology for the intended audience.

  • Overall navigation:  1–25 points 
    How easy were everyday topics to locate and how quickly were you able to access specific content?
  • Content:  1–25 points
    Does the site provide the content and topics that allow you to understand the capabilities, services and products along with sales policies, artwork requirements and production information?
  • Quality:  1–25 points
    Are all images clear and enticing? Were all links active? Were selling ideas, or additional capabilities highlighted on the site? Were additional industry tools available?
  • Creativity:  1–25 points
    Was the site stimulating, fresh and well-organized? Were interactive tools used effectively on the site?


E-commerce Website:
  This category of competition focuses on members’ websites that are intended for use from quoting to order placement, order tracking, art archives and order history within the promotional products channel. A winning site should minimize the need for direct contact with the factory to complete a transaction with a customer.

  • Overall navigation:  1–25 points
    How easy were product searches, decoration information and sales policies to locate? How easy was it to begin an order? How accessible was contact information?
  • Content:  1–25 points
    Does the site provide the content and topics that allow you to check inventory, place an order, select/submit artwork, process a payment, check on a pending order, view order tracking and invoice? Were sales, or closeout items featured?
  • Quality:  1–25 points
    Are all images clear and enticing? Were all links active? Were selling ideas, or additional capabilities highlighted on the site? Were additional industry tools available?
  • Creativity:  1–25 points
    Was the site stimulating, fresh and well-organized? Were interactive tools used effectively on the site?


Special Interest Websites:
  This category of competition will recognize members’ websites that deliver information about groups, trends, legislation, markets, or other information specific to the promotional products industry. Appropriate submissions could relate to education, legal issues, product safety, exclusive product development, tradeshows, sourcing, or other unique content. A company’s primary website does not qualify.

  • Overall purpose:  1–25 points
    How relevant and clear is the purpose of information found on the site? Is the content needed by the intended audience?
  • Content:  1–25 points
    How clear is the information available on the site? Is the content and detailed topics easily searchable using industry terms? Were other informational links accessible via the site?
  • Quality:  1–25 points
    Are all images clear and enticing? Were all links active? Was the content presented in a way that would be suitable to share with a client?
  • Creativity:  1–25 points
    Was the site stimulating, fresh and well-organized? Were interactive tools used effectively on the site?


Blogs:
  This category of competition will recognize members for their use of the blog format in sharing relevant industry information in a creative, insightful way using dated entries.

  • Overall purpose:  1–25 points
    Is there a clear business purpose for the blog and does the author have related experience and credentials appropriate for the site?
  • Content:  1–25 points
    Are posts relevant to the industry and posted on a timely and consistent basis? Is audience response lively and relevant?
  • Quality:  1–25 points
    Are topics of interest to a large, industry audience? Are supporting sites and other data used to support the author’s perspective?
  • Creativity:  1–25 points
    Is the writing style creative and interesting? Do the posts evoke thought, or discovery? 


Social Media—Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Others:
  This category of competition will recognize members for their effective use of established social media channels to carry their message, to deliver a desired, defined result and the ability to establish a “relationship” with customers and prospects via this media channel.   Special note:  Any entry with "same message content" delivered via multiple channels, or sites will be treated as one entry. Different messaging, whether on the same site, or another, will be treated as separate entries and additional fees will apply.

  • Overall purpose:  1–25 point
    Was there a well-defined message, or purpose for the campaign? Were there clear strategies executed? Is the business profile developed related to the site?
  • Content:  1–25 points
    How relevant were posts? Were offers and specials part of the campaign? How consistent were activities? Was the content of interest to the audience of followers?
  • Quality:  1–25 points
    How many posts were visible? What was the timing? How many followers are visible? How active were reposts?
  • Creativity:  1–25 points
    Is the writing style creative and interesting? Do the posts evoke thought, or discovery? Were active links used effectively?


Video Content:
This category of competition will recognize members for their creative development of a single video product along with the effective delivery of content via established platforms. Special note:  All content must be in good taste, apply good grammar and language skills and can include humor. Content that contains pornographic material, propogates hate messages, makes deflamatory statements, or might otherwise be considered offensive, whether visual, or auditory, will be disqualified.

  • Overall purpose:  1–25 points
    Was there a well-defined business purpose, or message communicated in the video?
  • Content:  1–25 points
    Was the content delivered with clear messaging? Is the content style appropriate for the intended viewer?
  • Quality:  1–25 points
    Was the production quality good? Images clear? Sound and use of music appropriate? Does the content load quickly and stream seamlessly?
  • Creativity:  1–25 points
    Do all elements; visual, auditory, script, etc. combine to deliver a compelling message, or story?


Mobile Apps:
  This category of competition will recognize members for their creative development specifically tailored for mobile devices. Entries can be either mobile applications, or mobile websites that enable on-the-go connectivity to company information, resources and tools.

  • Features and functionality:  1–25 points
    Do the features work as you would expect? Do they load quickly? Is the app/site responsive? Does the overall functionality of the app/site meet your expectations? Does it provide a good customer experience?
  • Navigation and layout:  1–25 points
    Is the navigation organized and easy to understand? Does it flow well? Is it easy to find what you're looking for? Is it quick? When you click on something, do you get what you expect?
  • Content:  1–25 points
    Is the content relevant and beneficial for on-the-go access? Is it easy to read? Is it presented in an easy to understand format? Is it appealing? Does it give you the information you need?
  • Quality and visual design:  1–25 points
    Does it have a good look and feel? Does it draw your attention? Is the design professional? Is there good corporate branding? Does everything work properly?


Judging
Judging panels will be established for each entry based on the intended audience. If the audience is end buyer/client-focused, end buyers will be included in the judging process; if the intended user is a distributor, a distributor judging panel will be utilized, etc. When appropriate, awards will be given for Gold, Silver and Bronze levels. Ties in a category will be awarded.

All submitted entries are judged individually based on how well they deliver the required category elements.  Member companies do not compete against each other, but earn points on their own merit. A total maximum score of 100 points can be earned for entries meeting the listed criteria.
