IRVING, Tex. (March 17, 2011) — Promotional Products Association International (PPAI; ppai.org), the not-for-profit association for the promotional products industry, Board of Directors and spouses, executive team and staff came together in Frisco, Texas, Saturday, March 12, 2011, to assemble bicycles, safety helmets, horns, baskets and accessories for children at the Grapevine Relief And Community Exchange (GRACE), a Grapevine, Texas-based non-profit relief agency which provides food, clothing, financial assistance, and other vital necessities to people who are struggling with a limited income or recent emergency.

“Each year the work of our partner charities reaches more families and children than ever before and it is of utmost importance to continue this essential work,” said Eric E. Ekstrand, MAS, chair of the board, Promotional Products Association International. “We have an amazing team of people at PPAI and we were inspired by the Build-A-Bike project which will help GRACE to accomplish its mission while putting smiles on the faces of children here in our local community who need encouragement during difficult times.”

Working through the PPAI Community Services Committee, an internal volunteer driven group that coordinates the many outreach projects of the non-profit trade association, the PPAI Board of Directors along with their spouses spent an afternoon building bicycles for youth ages 4 to 16. Over the years, the Association’s community service and outreach has grown to encompass many charitable organizations, including Irving Cares, PPAI Supports the Troops and Ronald McDonald House Charities, and actively works to seek out and fulfill the needs of its local community.

“We were so pleased PPAI chose to bless the children of our community with their Build-A-Bike event this year,” said Shonda Schaefer, executive director of GRACE. “Our local families need a strong support system to meet the challenges they face in this present economy. It is with the support of organizations like PPAI that we are able to accomplish our mission.”
